what is the size of the anchor bolt for this product?

Bought this product. I Checked with the county to see if a building permit was required. A permit is required. Minimum cost for the permit is $930.00 minimum. Also you must furnish the county with an engineer's wet signature and drawings would cost up or exceeding an additional $1500.00. You cannot put the thing where you want it on your property. The county inspector will tell you where you can place it. Also your property tax bill will go up and you have to also report it to your home insurance company. I wish Costco would have mentioned this to me before I bought this gazebo and hauled it home. It weights over 700 lbs. I guess I will be returning it.

Hello @Anonymous, sorry to hear that it wasn't worth it to put a gazebo on your property. I guess anyone thinking about putting up a structure like the Yardistry 12' x 14' Cedar Gazebo with Aluminum Roof from Costco in the backyard or property must check his/her city or county laws in regards to obtaining the required permits. Of course, rules and regulations will vary per locale. I'm sure some places probably don't even require a building a permit to put up a gazebo. Yes, it would be great for Costco to mention this, but, unfortunately, they are under no obligation to do so, so definitely check your local building permit office beforehand.

Just bring it home and bolt it together. If you go to your county and ask they'll say you need a permit to change a faucet. It's all about putting money in their pocket. It's just a big piece of patio furniture, I wouldn't bother asking anybody for permission to put furniture in my yard. Bureaucrats!

Hi @Anonymous, yes I agree that there are just way too many bureaucrats than we need. Anyway, ya it actually wouldn't surprise me if many people put up structures similar to the Yardistry 12' x 14' Cedar Gazebo with Aluminum Roof on their properties with no regard to local building laws, and I'm sure they do get away with it as well. If people do decide to go this route, there's definitely a certain amount of risk involved. Definitely, proceed at your own risk.

1. thanks for the article
2. no municipality on earth requires a permit to change a faucet
3. the purpose of the permit is to ensure that dangerous structures are not built. This is not a "piece of furniture" it could kill or seriously injure someone if it fell on them. That is not true of a plastic chair, which does not require a permit.
4. can you name a utopia where bureaucrats are rare? Mogadishu? Puntland? ...?

Thanks again for the article.

My thoughts exactly!

These are sold out at all the Costco's in my area. Is there any other option to purchase this gazebo?

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @Anonymous, normally I would say that you can also order the Yardistry 12' x 14' Cedar Gazebo with Aluminum Roof on Costco's website, but I just checked and unfortunately Costco is out of stock for this item online as well.

Yes, a permit is needed to have this in your yard. They will not provide drawings. Do not waste your money unless you are willing to pay an engineer for those drawings.

is it possible to hang a fan in this gazebo? I'd like to hang one up.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @yosia, I'm not sure if you can hang a fan in the ceiling of the Yardistry Cedar Gazebo. Assuming it is indeed safe to do so, I must say though that that's actually a pretty good idea. It'd be great for those warm days in the summer when it's nice to be outside, but too hot that you would need that fan to cool you down even further.

Anyone know of an installer in the Sacramento area? I have the gazebo on site.

Township inspector just showed up at my house after having recently constructed this product. I have a bad feeling where this may go...

ExecMemberMike said...

Uh oh. Hopefully, the inspector doesn't find any issues with your Yardistry Cedar Gazebo. Please let us know which city you're located in and how it turns out with the inspector, @Anonymous. Good luck!

Fortunately we live in a Sr. Mobile Home Community and the State said it was OK to put this up in our rear yard, no permit required. We had a crew that had done many of these installs in the recent past and they had it up in 3.5 hours. We had an electrician install our 9 blade fan which came with an LED light. This did require a longer drop down although the gazebo installers said the sway bars weren't necessary if we wanted it higher up. With no winds in our area we left the gazebo intact and got the longer drop and it's perfect.

That's great that you were able to put up your Yardistry wood Gazebo without any problems, @Anonymous! Adding that fan is definitely a nice touch too. Now that it's all set up, I'm sure you'll be making great use of it and spending a lot of time under there.
