I bought this desk. It's a beautiful piece of furniture and very heavy. Only issue is it didn't come with any assembly instructions. Can't figure out how the legs attach!

Hello @Unknown, I'm glad to hear that you're loving the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk. That's definitely strange that your desk didn't come with instructions to assemble it. Maybe you can contact the manufacturer and get the instructions that way. Good luck!

I just bought the same desk - came home, emptied the box and found NO instructions! The desk is way too heavy to drag back, I am still trying to google videos to do it ...

Hi @Mindy, that's a bummer that you didn't get any instructions to assemble your Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk. Hopefully, you can get it assembled and start using your desk soon enough.

As I just broad same desk yesterday and can't find instructions either (BTWthere are letters on the parts and "step 3", etc on hardware), I was googling for instructions as well ...

Grrowlerr said...

I couldn't find instructions either, but after I got the desk put together, I found the instructions taped inside the middle drawer.

ExecMemberMike said...

Thanks @Grrowlerr for letting us know that the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk instructions may be found in one of the drawers. I would never have thought about looking in there when assembling any piece of furniture. I'm sure people with this desk will find this tip very useful. If the instructions are still no where to be found, hopefully assembling the desk is easy and intuitive enough.

I found the instructions in the middle drawer.

Hello @Cheryl, thank you for confirming that the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk instructions for assembly can be found in the middle drawer. Hopefully, it wasn't too hard to find.

Easy to install once the 2 side doors are removed. The back cross support in the picture at the top of the page is installed wrong (front of the desk vs back on the desk). Overall, it is made well and looks good.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @Anonymous, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk and also for letting us know that the desk in the first picture was assembled with the cross bar incorrectly in the front. I guess the Costco employees who assembled the desk also didn't find the instructions for assembly in the middle drawer.

We found the instructions in the middle drawer and the hardware as well, but we CANNOT remove the side drawers in order to install the legs. The instructions say to pull the drawers all the way out to expose the black levers in the drawer glides . . . push one up and one down (which we have done repeatedly) but neither drawer disengages from the glide. We have many other pieces of furniture that have similar glides so we are familiar with this process, but these drawers do not come out. Can anyone tell us how they removed their drawers?

Soooo . . . after spending WAY TOO MUCH TIME trying to remove the drawers, I opted to turn the desktop upside down again and remove the wood bottom panel. This was screwed AND glued in place so after removing all the screws, it took some time and patience to very carefully pry the glued panel off with a very thin putty knife. I also ran a utility knife carefully around the edge where some of the varnish had formed a seal between the main desk and the bottom panel. After this was done successfully, the desk went together beautifully, is very solid and stable, and is exactly what we pictured.

Hello @Diane, I'm glad to hear that you finally got your Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk all assembled and good to go. Although the desk was a challenge to assemble, I hope that you're making good use of it and that it lasts you a very long time.

Where can I find the chair that is pictured with the desk - look at the side of the box - I would like the chair, as well. Anyone know?

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @Anonymous, I'm not sure where you can get the chair pictured on the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk box, but surely it must be made by the same manufacturer. Unfortunately, I haven't seen that particular chair at Costco, but I'll definitely keep an eye out for it and post it if I do spot it.

There are no instructions anywhere! (And I did look inside ALL the drawers)

Hi @Unknown, oh that sucks that your Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk didn't even come with instructions. Hopefully, it'll be easy enough to put together even without the instructions. That or maybe you can contact the manufacturer for a pdf if necessary.

I love this desk! I only wish I would've found this post before searching for instructions for an hour and then attempting to assemble without removing the drawers first. Needless to say, that didn't go well! But thankfully I found the instructions in the middle drawer after reading your posts. Thank you!

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Anonymous, don't beat yourself up too much for not looking inside the middle drawer. I'm sure most people don't bother checking either. I'm really glad that you got it assembled and are loving your Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk. I just love hearing stories shared by other Costco Weekenders like myself who are enjoying some of the deals and products they've found at Costco. Anytime someone finds the posts, pictures, and comments on here beneficial, then all the better!

Unknown said...

Started to put the desk together and not sure we were doing it right(no directions) looked online and noticed the comment about them in the middle drawer. Thanks we got it now.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Unknown, I'm glad that the instructions for the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk that you bought from Costco was found in the middle drawer. I guess it's always a good idea to check all the drawers/cabinets for the instructions anytime we buy new furniture. I'm glad you eventually got it, and I hope you enjoy your new desk!

Brandie Manuel said...

The instructions fell behind middle drawer in mine. I removed two screws on power strip, and pulled out yellow envelope. Or pullout drawer.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @Brandie, I hope getting the instructions for your Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk wasn't too difficult, and I hope you didn't have any problem putting the desk together. It's a good thing you knew to not only check the middle drawer but behind it as well to find the assembly instructions.

Unknown said...

I cannot get the drawers out. I have tried over and over again, pulling one lever up and one lever down. It is getting very frustrating. Any advice?

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Diane, that's unfortunate to hear that the drawers of your Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk are stuck. I wonder if your desk got warped or something making the drawers stuck. I'm not quite how you can fix it since I'm sure you already tried everything, but I hope you can figure something out. Good luck.

Look for instructions in the middle draw--taped up and hiding, possibly!

ExecMemberMike said...

@Anonymous, yup that seems to be the case that the assembly instructions for the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk can be found in the middle drawer, but thanks for the tip to make sure it isn't taped up and hiding...yup those instructions can be quite sneaky!

Anonymous said...

I can't get the side drawers out either- would love any advice (short of removing the bottom panel- that sounds like way too much work!)

kidzpta said...

Well, there were no instructions in the middle drawer. But there was an envelope behind the middle drwer. Took the drawer out and there they were. By the way, you need to push down on the black plastic stick like thing in the track on one side and lift up the stick on the other side to get the drawers out.

Hi @kidzpta, thank you for the tip on how to remove the drawers. I'm sure this will prove to be very useful for some folks like @Diane since the assembly instructions for the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk can sometimes be found there. It's just weird that the manufacturer would put the instructions there to begin with.

Dala said...

Regarding the drawer removal, you need to push down on the small lever on the right side of the drawer and pull up on the small lever on the left side of the drawer. This is true for both drawers. You also need to start pushing and pulling the levers BEFORE the drawers are fully opened. Basically, there is a small plastic "stop" in the channel, on the upper 1/2 (right side) or lower 1/2 (left side) of the drawer sliding frame. By pushing or pulling on the levers you're allowing the drawer to slide "around" the stops.

ExecMemberMike said...

Thanks @Dala for clarifying on how to remove the drawers to retrieve the assembly instructions. I guess the manufacturer of the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk should've enclosed instructions on how to do this as well. Knowing them, they'll probably hide it somewhere in the desk that isn't easily accessible either.

Architectural Renderings said...

Drawers don't come out, so legs can't be put on. Instructions are behind a drawer that can not come out. Really? I will never buy furniture from CostCo again.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @Architectural Renderings, yes it seems like the manufacturer for the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk didn't really think things through with this piece of furniture. Costco tends to be less expensive than in other places for furniture that is comparable or good enough for most people. Not only that, but the furniture at Costco seems to be better quality than the furniture in IKEA where they make furniture with the quality good enough only for a college student.

I went to my local Costo this weekend intending to buy this desk...it had been there for the previous couple of weeks.

Unfortunately, they no longer had it, and I have been unable to find it anywhere else, including the Universal Furniture website.

Does anybody know of any other place that this desk can be found?

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Anonymous, unfortunately ever since I first saw the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk back in mid January, I'm seeing it less and less every time I go to Costco. Perhaps you can check other Costco locations close to you and, hopefully, they'll have one in stock. Good luck!

I'd like to buy one of the chairs that's shown on the picture of the desk. Anyone know where I can get one?

Unknown said...

My instruction had fallen behind the center desk drawer. I needed to remove the middle drawer to access the directions.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Kim, hopefully it wasn't too difficult getting the instruction manual for the Universal Furniture Broadmoore Writing Desk from behind the center drawer.
