I've bought a couple of these over the years (one for me, one for a girlfriend as a gag gift). If used in accordance with the instructions, its actually quite accurate. It's helpful on those occasions were you have had one or two drinks with dinner and want to know what your reading is. You should only use it after waiting 20 minutes or so from your last drink. If you use it right after a drink it will give you ridiculously high reading. Also, your BAC continues to rise as much as 30 minutes after your last drink, so keep that in mind too.

Yes I agree that this makes for a great gift for someone either as a stocking stuffer, gag gift, or white elephant gift. It's definitely practical to have when going out and am glad that people are willing to use it.
