Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can

Every household creates trash, so it's a good thing Costco has the Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can. What's great about Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can is that you don't have to physically touch the garbage can when throwing out trash. This comes in handy since some trash cans can have a lot of guck on the surface forcing you to touch it when throwing something out (ie the trash cans in public places or fast food restaurants). That way you can both enjoy a touchless experience and still not have to have unsightly trash in plain view. Not only that, but the Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can even has a deodorizer, so that the trash doesn't have to smell so bad when the trash is full. You'll find that the Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can is great to have in the kitchen or garage making every other trash can just pure rubbish.

This garbage can is garbage. It didn't last a year and when it worked it was a nightmare of batteries. The 6 batteries didn't last longer then 2 weeks. Bad item, I don't recomend it to anyone.

Thanks @mel for sharing some valuable feedback on the Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can. It's definitely disappointing that it's a drain on batteries and didn't last long at all. I hope you were able to return it. Costco has a pretty good return policy when it comes to products that are defective and/or items that you are not completely satisfied with.

I've been using my trash can for about 2 months now and zero malfunctions, original batteries. I love how easy it is to keep open when I'm working in the kitchen or have it on auto mode when I'm not. I also like that it holds a regular kitchen trash liner. No special liners required. This trash can sells for a fraction of the cost of similar sensor trash cans. Clean-up is very easy and it's the most attractive trash can I've ever owned. I love it!

Can has been working great for over 2 years. The only problem with it is the "Built-in deodorizer holder". Yes, there is a holder there, but there is NOWHERE that sells a deodorizer that fits this model of trash can.

Got mine at Costco and it did not last more than 4 months.I changed batteries and then it stopped working. Lights would not even come on. This product is designed for only short life span- 4-6 months and then it is manual opening only

It sounds like your Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can is totally working out for you without any issues, @Unknown. Your feedback is definitely important to those in the market for a automatic trash can.

Hello @Anonymouse, yes that is a bit odd that there is a built-in deodorizer holder, yet there doesn't seem to be one out there that can fit in that space. I'm surprised that oversight still made it to production unless the manufacturer intended to eventually make a proprietary one (maybe).

Hi @Road_Rider, That's terrible that your Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can basically stopped working only after a few months. That kind of defeats the purpose of having an auto trash can. Maybe you just got the unfortunate luck of getting a lemon.

I got mine in 2018 from Costco. It only needed a battery change once. Towards the last six months of its lifespan it started to malfunction occasionally where the motion sensor wouldn't read properly. We tried swapping out the batteries a second time but that wasn't the issue. At $30 I'm okay with it not being the best quality but I wanted to leave a comment so other people could get a better review through googling.

Thanks @Anonymous for sharing your experience with the Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can. Yes, your feedback is greatly appreciated especially those in the market for an automatic trash can.

Need a replacement lid/top battery life has gone way down can anyone suggest

Mine lasted 2+ years even with kids in the house who manage t destroy most everything. List just began acting up, going through batteries quickly, could be due to water getting in battery compartment. Do you know where I can get a replacement lid/tip?

This is the third Trash can that I buy from Costco,I paid 60.00 for each during times it would malfunction, and now although I cleaned out the sensor parts, it only works if you physically lift the lid, touchless is not, all of them are not worth your money please dont buy them, save your money. i should get my money back!

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @Anonymous, yes I agree that you should get your money back if your Eko Motion Sensor Trash cans don't work properly. I would've figured that you'd forego buying a third trash can if the first two were already malfunctioning...unless, of course, they all stopped working only after you bought the third one.

Our EKO Monia lasted two years. One additional feature of this trash can I really appreciated is the inside liner, which made removing the bag so easy compared with the competition's bag ring. I see the Monia is listed on the EKO web at $130.

Thanks for your feedback on the Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can, @Chopstix. I'm sure sure people reading will find your review very helpful when considering this trash can.

I have had my Eko for at least 3 years. when I first purchased, a wire came lose, I fixed it myself. It has since died, the lights keep flashing and the top no longer responds to motion. It has been fairly reliable. Not sure I will purchase another, you do get what you pay for. Researching other alternatives first. It does eat batteries like crazy.

I've had mine for over a year now and have no problems at all & still running on original batteries (Costco Duracell). I have not found any deodorizers to fit in the compartment but I am going to try some flexible activated charcoal bag ones I found online. I don't smell anything unless the lid is open, so no big deal for me. Love this purchase & love the price! Thank you for another great product Costco.

I got this trash can as a housewarming present from my aunt in 2018. It lasted for a good year. Now the sensor has stopped working. I tried resetting it and switching batteries. Even without the sensor, I tried to push the button and within hours the batteries are dead (Energizer and Duracell batteries). I wish this trash lasted longer, and I am too sad to tell my aunt that it stopped working.

We bought our trash can at Costco going on 2 years now, and have ran into the same problem that I'm reading in these reviews. It worked really well at first and recommended it to our family and friends. But once the batteries went out and was replaced, they never seemed to last more than a week or two at a time. I wonder if it's too late to return?

Unknown said...

Never had a problem with mine. I bought it over a year ago and it's working great without a problem.

I have had the issue w/ the battery life suddenly falling off. It seems to correspond w/ the top half of the central hexagonal no longer lighting up. This was the issue that occurred at the same time as the batteries start draining quickly for both garbage cans.

Tried to return the defective item to Costco and they would not take it.

ExecMemberMike said...

That's strange @Seda. Costco usually accepts most returns. I just saw an article online about a woman who returned a couch after almost 3 years! Did they give you a reason why they wouldn't accept it? I would think an item like the Eko Motion Sensor Trash Can being defective would be a reasonable return for a full refund.
