the arms have no locking mechanism when in the upright position. last week on Valentines Day both my thumbs were gashed deeply and crushed when those arms collapsed unexpectedly as I was rising to get off the chair.. collapsed suddenly into the down position. gashing and trapping my thumbs on each side. only by the grace of God was I able to get my thumbs free so I could get inside the house to tend to them. it was quite bloody and very painful after the numbness wore off. both swollen and black and blue. ended up at a Doctor's Care facility to have them x-rayed. not broken but crushed and deeply gashed. we filed a claim hoping they will recall those chairs and fix that design flaw before selling anymore of them. it nearly severed both thumbs and could easily crush and sever the hand of a small child. it's a very serious flaw in the design. :( :( :( Costco has been very helpful in helping me file a claim. they will deal with the manufacturer on my behalf. hopefully the manufacturer will cover my medical bill. such a shock. :(

That's unfortunate what happened to you when using your chair, but I'm glad to hear that it wasn't a more serious injury. Hopefully Costco will recall these chairs, so that no one else gets hurt.
@execmembermike You want to recall because one retart is too inept to use a lounge chair. If you can't use these lounge chairs--ITS ON YOU.
