Wild Cooked Dungeness Crab

Dungeness crab has always been a common San Francisco food that anyone can enjoy whether you're a native of the Bay Area or a tourist. Boats would dock and unload their catch at Fisherman's Wharf every fall where they'd be sold to people or distributed to local restaurants. The crab season this year is off to a good start unlike last year when crab was deemed unsafe to eat due to a toxin which essentially shut down the entire 2015 crab season. Fresh caught crab that you buy live tastes great even if you just boil it and eat it with butter. Unfortunately, it can be expensive to buy live crab. You can save yourself a good amount of effort by going to Costco for some good dungeness crab. The dungeness crab at Costco already comes pre-cooked and put on ice. In all honesty, it actually taste the same as live crab that you would buy at Ranch 99 or any other Asian grocery store. The crab claws and crab legs taste great and you could never tell that they were pre-cooked. Not only that, but because it's already cooked, you don't have to go through the hassle of cleaning the crabs beforehand and risk getting pinched by their claws. I'm assuming this dungeness crab is most likely only available in the Costcos in the West, but if you do get your hands on them, you'd be supporting local fisherman. Don't let the 2016 crab season pass you by and take advantage of this seafood for an awesome crab boil for the holidays.
