[Scroll down to view product info]

Sometimes I hate opening the door whenever someone is knocking. Can you blame me? Sometimes it's Jehova's Witness or neighborhood kids trying to sell you something you don't need. Sometimes though you really do want to answer the door if it's a buddy dropping by or a package you're expecting. That's why the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime comes in handy since you can see whoever is at the door without actually answering it. You can view the video on your mobile device with the accompanying app. You'll feel safer and more comfortable whether you're at home or not. Video records once motion is detected, so you can see anytime there's someone shady at the door. It even comes with a chime, so that you can hear when someone is indeed at the door if you don't already have a doorbell. Be safer and more secure with the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime.

Saw this at one of my local Costco's (Oregon) for the same price but wanted to research it first. Went back to a different local Costco and they had it for $10 more. The Costco worker there said it was a 'different newer model.' It's totally not, he was completely wrong. But it did have a sticker on the box that said it now includes 1 year of cloud recording. That is nice, a $30 value. I purchased it but haven't figured out how to get the 1 year yet. This item is #1068614, so it registers differently. Anyone else with experience?

I just bought the same version, $10 more and includes a year of service, but no clue how to activate the year of service.

Hello @Anonymous and @watsoncafe, I haven't seen the newer model of the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime at my local Costco yet, but if I do, I'll be sure to post it. Having said that, I'm not sure how to get the one year of cloud recording. I would've figured that there'd be some sort of documentation or instructions in the box. I guess the manufacturer assumed that activating the 1 year of cloud recording was easy and/or intuitive enough.

just got this and yes the price was $189.99, this has been the price since i saw it 2 weeks ago in san jose (Hostetter) Costco. There is no instructions on the package to get the 1 year subscription, Trying to add it to a plan and it asks for my CC numbers...

Update: I checked on my account today just for kicks and just saw the trial period was extended to "365 days of Trial Left"... so yes indeed the 1 year subscription is 1 year. So if you bought one from Costco that shows free 1 year subscription, you need to install their app and add in the Ring Doorbell to the list of devices. It may take 24 hours for this to register and show the 1 year free trial period...
This brings up a big question, since this shows up as a trial period do we get 100% functionality, cloud storage, device updates like as it was a paid subscription? Time will tell...

Hello @Anonymous, thank you for clarifying what must be done to get an extra year of service for the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime. I'm sure people considering this product will definitely find this information very useful.

Did you check your account in the app? I only have the option to pick a service plan that costs money. I don't see anything in the app for a free trial? Thanks!

Hi @Dmhm08, maybe you got a different model of Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime from Costco. Perhaps the one that you got didn't come with a free trial. That's the only reason I can think of as to why you didn't get a free trial, but I could be wrong of course if you did indeed get the same Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime that I saw at Costco.

I have the same issue too. I contacted costco and they are not sure. I concted the ring and they tell me Costco should of gave me an activation code to register. I Have their App and have all the cameras added. No 1 year subscription.

Hello @Anonymous, thanks for sharing your experience with the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime. I just hate it when you can't get any help because the responsible parties involved end up pointing to each other claiming that the other party is responsible. This happens all the time not just with this doorbell but other things as well, and it's just unacceptable. All I can do is shake my head.

I just installed and setup my Ring a few minutes ago and also wondered how to activate the 1 year subscription. Googled it and found your page. Logged into my newly created account on ring.com, click on Plan, and under Devices On My Plan it says "Billing starts after your trial ends in 364 days." So it looks automatic. Now I'm wondering if I have to give it a credit card now or before the years up?

ExecMemberMike said...

Thank you @Unknown for confirming that the free one year subscription is automatically added when you create a new account. I'm sure many people who bought the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime will find this information quite useful and it should clear up some confusion. I'm guessing that you only have to submit your credit card information only if you want to continue with the subscription beyond one year. If not, I assume the subscription just gets cancelled once the year is up.

I just set mine up. Has a 30 day trial. Can't get it to activate a one year trial.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Anonymous, maybe the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime available at Costco no longer comes with a 1 year subscription and instead only has a 30 day trial? The one I spotted at Costco was well over a year ago, so maybe things have changed since I last saw it. That's the only reason I can come up with as to why you only got 30 days instead of 1 year. It's not uncommon for subtle changes to occur on seemingly similar items.

I am having the same problem. The reason I bought this from Costco was partially the year of cloud service. I have the Costco app but cannot find a place to associate devices.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @Dona, that sucks that you can't get the free one year subscription that supposedly comes with the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime. Costco and/or the manufacturer should provide clear instructions for those who purchase this product.

I just purchased the ring doorbell at costco and installed it. I'm having the same issue after registering the device on a new account I created on ring.com. It is showing just 30 day free trial on my account only. There were no instructions included in the costco package for the 1 year free cloud services.

Matthew Merrill said...

I had called the Costco Concierge Services and they have only limited support for the Ring Video Doorbell, which doesn't include the 1 year subscription. They suggested to call Ring directly at 1-800-656-1918. I was told that the 1 year subscription should automatically start after the 30 day trial completes. As each device has its own MAC Address, Ring should have the list of devices that they had sent to Costco. We wait and see what happens when the trial completes.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Matthew, ya I would expect the manufacturer of the Ring Doorbell would be more apt to help than Costco when it comes to getting the one year free subscription. Thanks for confirming that the one year free subscription kicks in after the 30 day trial if it indeed that is true. 13 free months is definitely a lot better than 1 or 12 months.

As I was looking at My Account on the Ring app on my phone, the live chat icon popped up. So I got on chat, asked about the 1-year subscription. the CSR Alex O. was very helpful. I sent him my account email address, he emailed me right away and I replied with my Costco receipt. Taken care of quickly.

Thanks for the tip, @Dave! People who purchased the Ring Video Doorbell and Wireless Chime from Costco can easily get that one year free subscription by just chatting with customer support on the Ring app like what @Dave did.
