Samsung UN65JU639D 65” UHD LED LCD TV

[Scroll down to view product info]

With the holidays approaching, it’s time to treat yourself to the crisp 4K images from the Samsung UN65JU639D 65” 4K UHD LED LCD tv. 4K TVs have gone down in price just in the past year. I remember not too long ago, I saw 65” 4K TVs for well over $2000. The Samsung UN65JU639D is available at Costco for an impressive $1699 including a $200 manufacturer’s rebate. For under $2000, you get a 4 times the resolution of full HD. If you’re still watching non-HD content, the UN65JU639D is able to upscale the images to make it look close to HD quality. Since I like watching sports, I’m going to appreciate the 120 Motion Rate that cuts down on the blurry effects you would see when watching fast action video. And since the Samsung 65” UN65JU639D is a Smart TV, you’ll be able to watch internet content from the likes of Netflix, Hula and Youtube. It also comes with a full web browser. I’m not sure if browsing the web on a TV is that efficient but it’s good to have it anyway. With 4K technology now within our grasp, it’s time to enjoy TV again with the Samsung UN65JU639D.

Oh, also I was told that we would not be able to get 4K content from Netflix nor Amazon as the model number is not listed by Samsung with either company.

This TV has an issues seen in Samsung tvs from 2011 from what I found online. It will go black (still has audio through my reciever, but no video) for a few seconds. The video comes back right away without intervention. However is this a sign of worse issues to come? If so, I may take mine back or at least buy the extended Costco warranty. Fyi, I updated to the latest firmware (11.28.15) and the issue is not fixed.

Hi @C, I didn't know that Samsung tv's had this issue of momentarily blacking out with audio still working, so getting the extended warranty might be a good idea.. Hopefully, Samsung fixes this sooner rather than later in future tv models.

I saw it yesterday with a $700 dls rebate, $1199.99 Price!

Thanks @David for letting us know about the updated price for the Samsung UN65JU639D 65 inch tv. The lower price must be as a result of the Black Friday deals that has been going on. Hopefully, a lot of Costco members were able to take advantage of the price drops and deals for various products at Costco.

Unknown said...

They reduced it further to $1199 through 11/30
Fabulous Sale

Hi @Unknown, yup the price of the Samsung UN65JU639D 65" tv seems to be going down in various Costcos in time for the holidays which is definitely great for us.

I picked up my UN65JU639D 65" in Kirkland, WA on Sunday with the $700 instant rebate. Hoping to get it mounted today. :)

The $1,199 deal is still going on at Costco in stores till the 5th. Online shows sold out but still in stock in stores as of yesterday night. Located in Bay Area, CA

ExecMemberMike said...

HI @Anonymous, thanks for letting us know that the Samsung UN65JU639D 65 inch tv is no longer available online, but the deal is still available if you go to the Costco stores around the Bay Area.

Picked one up 2 days ago at the Costco in San Dimas. I don't see any picture quality diff vs the 650D but here is what I have found so far
1. only 3 HDMI ports
2. no Component input
3. No Samsung smart connect (aka no Bluetooth)

Is really the entry level/bare bone of a 65in 4k Samsung TV, but at $1199 price is def a steal

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Vodka G, ya for the most part, the Samsung UN65JU639D is good enough for most people who aren't very particular with a tv and just need a good size tv for their large family room or living room in their home.

The TV is not currently DirectTV ready and thus I am unable to watch any of their 4K content. Evidently, without the HDCP 2.2 port (according to DirectTV), the content will not be viewable until DirectTV makes this model available in their system. They won't say when that might be. Can anybody comment on this? thanks.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Unknown, that's definitely a bummer to hear that the Samsung UN65JU639D is not DirectTV ready. Hopefully, this will change soon enough for all those DirectTV customers.

Unknown said...

is the 639D model wi-fi enabled?

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @Unknown, yes the Samsung UN65JU639D 65 inch television has wireless connectivity.

C said...

Even with 2 updates to firmware, my TV still has the issue of turning off for a few seconds once or twice a day. Going to return it soon. @vodkaG...the 639D does have bluetooth as I have used "screen mirroring" from my Samsung tablet. (Perhaps you were mentioning features for the 650 in which you can ignore this).

ExecMemberMike said...

Hello @C, that's weird that your Samsung UN65JU639D 65 inch tv randomly turns off. Maybe it just so happened that you got a lemon rather than it being an issue with the firmware. Ya, I hope you get that full refund.
