[Scroll down to view product info]

For the fraction of the cost of a new battery, you can charge or maintain your existing batteries with the Deltran Battery Tender 3.0 Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer. I used an older model by Deltran to charge up my motorcycle battery. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to ride my motorcycle a whole lot and it stayed in the garage for long periods of time. After a little while the battery would be dead. Ever have to kick start a motorcycle without a hill nearby? So I bought a Deltran Battery Tender to charge my battery back to life and it had saved me several times from having to buy a new battery. So if you have other vehicles like ATVs, motorcycles, jet skis, etc then consider the Deltran Battery Tender 3.0 Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer. Don’t think about needing one when you really need one. It’s best to be prepared.

Hi @Anonymous, if you haven't done so already, you can buy the Deltran Battery Tender 3.0 Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer from Costco. If you don't like it, at least Costco has a good return policy where you can return it if you're not completely satisfied with it and just go with the 1.25 amp battery tender that you already bought. If you do like it, at least you can still return the 1.25 amp battery assuming it's unopened.

Hi Anonymous,

We purchased the 3A Battery Tender on sale for $30.

I've used it to charge 3 partially discharged car batteries. All were around 12.4V (~12.65-12.7V is fully charged).

I was surprised by how quickly the battery voltage increased after connecting the charger. In all 3 cases the voltage rose to the "absorption mode" voltage of about 14.5V within about 2 minutes. I'm used to it taking a lot longer. Of course, I've been using the 0.75 amp BT Junior, so that's a factor.

Also, the green LED was flashing almost immediately. The manual says:

"When the green LED is flashing...the battery is greater than 80% charged and may be removed from the charger and used if necessary."

I find it hard to believe that these 3 batteries reached 80% SOC that quickly, but there are variables with lead-acid batteries (like temperature) so maybe it is working as designed.

As I recall, the BT Junior cost me about the same -- $30. If you can still return the Junior and get the 3A unit (even if it's $40) that would be the way to go.

The other BT we have is the "BT Plus". It puts out 1.25A and cost $50 on sale (typical price was $60) so again, this 3A unit seems like a deal.

This 3A unit will charge 6V batteries as well as 12V. 6V isn't as common, but golf cart (GC) batteries are popular and they are 6V. So the 6V capability might be important to some people.
