Just put this together (simple and straight forward) and have it out charging in the sun. Here is my concern: The directions INSIDE the package (it is not anywhere on the outside) indicate that the LED lights are NON-REPLACEABLE. They have a 15,000 hour "life" (instructions say that the LED lights "can" last "up to" 15,000 hrs - not that they WILL or that they are guaranteed to). So does this mean that the entire appliance must be replaced when the LED lights fail? 15,000 hrs is approximately 5 years of life. At $100 per appliance, this amounts to $20/year in cost if the whole thing needs replacement after 5 years. This is NOT less expensive than running electric bulbs. I believe Costco should have the manufacturer find a way to offer a replacement light kit and instructions to do so.

Hello @seletts, thanks for letting us know about the LED lights having up to a 15,000 hour life. That's kind of weird that the directions says that the LED lights are non-replaceable. That would definitely be disappointing if you had to replace the whole thing once the LED lights die. I agree with you that Costco (or the manufacturer) should provide a way to replace those lights once they die.

@selettes, I found the following information on Reflection International's website which might be useful:

How long do the LED lamps last?

The LED light bulbs have an operational life cycle of over 10,000 hours. That is about 10 years on continuous operation. LED lights are more efficient than the ordinary bulbs.

Will I need to / Can I replace the LED in my solar lights?

The LED's are not replaceable. If the light will not come on, the repairs should only be carried out by qualified persons using original spare parts, otherwise this may result in considerable danger to the user.

How often will I need to replace the L.E.D. in my solar lamp?

The Light Emitting Diodes (LED's) themselves are not replaceable, but thankfully last a lot longer than incandescent bulbs. Their life expectancy typically exceeds 10 years, based on running 12 hours every night. Thus, LED bulbs will never burn out during the lifetime of the product.

I bought this lamp post despite reservations as it seems solar lights never perform consistently well. I even inquired with Costco personnel about reviews received from other customers which they were not aware of any. Unfortunately, this lamp was no exception when after installation, and waiting 4 days for it to get a great charge before turning it on I was completely disappointed. The lamp only stayed on for about 2 hours the first time, and after that it has only stayed on for a matter of minutes before shutting off. I can flip the power button again to have it illuminate only to turn off a couple of minutes later, and after doing this a couple of times it will shut off in less than a minute after turning on. It received direct sun light throughout each day it was charging, is placed in an area that gets very little light during the night and so there is no reason for it not to stay on except for being defective. In fact, as bright as the light is while on for those few minutes at a time I know it has received a charge, but it just won't stay on for some reason. Looks like I will have to return to Costco, and it will be coming back without a box as I didn't expect this complete failure with the light & I simply did not have the room in my small townhome to keep the box after installation. Can't believe how much time was wasted for this light not to work, and I am just glad I didn't even think about a concrete installation per instructions.

Hi @Shawn, thank you for sharing your experience with the Reflection International LED Solar Dual Head Lamp Post. That's awfully disappointing to hear that it rarely ever worked when it was supposed to be on. It's a good thing Costco has a pretty good return policy when it comes to defective products purchased or items you're not completely satisfied with.

Hi @Unknown, that's terrible that the Reflection International LED Solar Dual Head Lamp Post that you got didn't even work straight out of the box! I hope you returned it and got a full refund. That's just unacceptable.

I have one of these that I purchased at my local costco. Assembled it put it up and it came on and works great, the only issue is that I can't find additional lamps.

Hello @clittle, I'm glad to hear that the Reflection International LED Solar Dual Head Lamp Post is working out for you. It'd really be great if Costco sells the replacement lamps, but unfortunately they don't.

I am not looking for replacement lamps I am looking to buy 4 or 5 of the total package, lamp, post, lights etc. It great but I can not find additional units.

ExecMemberMike said...

Hi @clittle, sorry for misunderstanding. That's the thing with Costco. Costco does a very good job quickly cycling through the products they have for sale. A lot of times, you'll see a certain item and once they've already sold all of the stock, they won't get anymore. This is not uncommon especially for seasonal products. Sometimes it'll be a few months before you see that same item like the Reflection International LED Solar Dual Head Lamp Post back in Costco. Or sometimes they won't even have the same exact product, but maybe something similar instead.
